Colas was first established in Quebec in 1963 and its first acquisition in the United States dates back to 1979. Today, with operations in 23 states in the US (from the East Coast to the Middle West, California and Alaska) as well as in five provinces and two north-western territories of Canada, Colas is one of North America's biggest road-building companies, asphalt mix manufacturers and aggregate suppliers. Colas subsidiaries in the US carry out a large number of road infrastructure rehabilitation and development projects. Projects in the US include the refection of Route 15 and construction of a bridge in Pennsylvania and the widening and extension of the Ketchikan airport runway in Alaska. In Canada, Colas resurfaced an 18-kilometre section of the Haines Highway in Yukon Territory.
