Bouygues has already taken many steps to limit the impact of its activities on the environment, improve working conditions for staff and involve its partners in actions for progress. The aim now is to step up those efforts, rationalise them and measure their effects.
Olivier Bouygues, one of the two Deputy CEOs, has been given the task of coordinating the Group's sustainable development policy.
A Sustainable Development Department was created in 2005 in order to help business areas share best practices, raise awareness among employees and provide training, and assist and advise sustainable development liaison staff. It also represents the Group to the outside world.

The work of the Sustainable Development Department and the committees is explained in detail in corporate communications media.
Non-financial reporting
The Group has chosen non-financial reporting software that will be implemented in 2008 and used to monitor the efficiency of sustainable development roadmaps in each business area. A special committee has been set up to define relevant non-financial indicators.
Group-wide actions
Group-wide coordination has been introduced for responsible purchasing, Quality, Safety and the Environment (QSE), information systems and sustainable development.
Sustainable Construction Task Force
A Group-wide task force on sustainable construction was created in 2007 in order to pool knowledge and feedback within the Group and promote the integration of new technologies in projects.
Carbon strategy
A Group-wide strategy to reduce CO2
emissions was drawn up in 2007. The aim is to provide the operating units of the construction subsidiaries with specific software in order to calculate the carbon balance of certain projects and put forward alternative solutions that respect the environment.
Global Compact and other initiatives
The Group's five business areas and the parent company have been members of the UN Global Compact since 8 December 2006.
Responsible communications
About 100 Bouygues group communicators attended an awareness-raising seminar on responsible communications organised in October 2007 with ADEME, the French environment and energy management agency.
