BiodiversityThe Group’s construction sector conducts initiatives to promote biodiversity.
For its infrastructure projects, Bouygues Construction has signed a five-year partnership with the association Noé Conservation. The association advises the subsidiary on offsetting the impact of its worksites from a biodiversity perspective, by creating, wetlands or nesting areas, for example, and by looking at how to foster future abundant animal life once the project has been delivered.
Another example: as part of the renovation of Challenger, the headquarters of Bouygues Construction, a filter garden has been created. Based on a specific biological process, the garden acts as a natural treatment plant. It also contributes to enriching biodiversity with specific fauna and flora.
Bouygues Construction is also working with the CSTB on the development of the software programme Elodie® (www.elodie-cstb.fr). The aim is to trace the life cycle of a building and contribute indirectly to protecting biodiversity by assessing the impact of its activities.
Colas has been aware of biodiversity issues in its quarries for many years, ranging from co-existence during operation with species already present on the site to the integration of social and environmental factors when the land is returned at the end of the quarry's life.
