Biography - Yves Gaudemet

Yves Gaudemet is a graduate of Institut Études Politiques de Paris (IEP) with a PhD in Law and holds the prestigious rank of “agrégé” teacher in law (1972). He has taught at the universities of Rabat, Paris X Nanterre, Paris-Malakoff and, since 1979, he has been a Professor at Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II), where he teaches general administrative law, administrative property law, administrative litigation and economic public law. He has also taught at École des Mines de Paris, ENA, HEC and IEP.

Yves Gaudemet was President of the Public Law department at Paris II from 1989 to 1994, President of the French Universities Board (Law section) from 1994 to 2003, head of the Georges Vedel Doctoral School of Public Law at Paris II (2004-2010), Director for the DEA postgraduate, now Master’s degree, course in Public Law (2000-2010), and Vice-President of the Scientific Board at Paris II. He sat on the jury for the public law “agrégation” examination from 1981, the ENA entrance and exit examination (from 1983 to 1985), and the legal counsel recruitment examination at the Paris Administrative Court. He also chaired the jury for the ENA entrance examination in 2011.

He held two posts on ministerial staffs: from 1976 to 1977, he was special advisor to the French Minister of Universities, Alice Saunier-Seité; then from 1986 to 1987, he was legal counsel for the French Minister of Research and Higher Education, Alain Devaquet. He is also a member of the Conseil Général des Mines (since 1985), member of the Conseil Supérieur des Tribunaux Administratifs et des Cours Administratives d’Appel (high committee for administrative and administrative appeal courts). As Chairman of the Legal Committee for the Fédération Nationale des Travaux Publics (French civil works federation) and a member of the Paris Litigation Committee, he puts theory into practice. He serves as counsel for the Principality of Monaco, where he chairs the Comité Supérieur d’Études Juridiques.

He is the author of several works, articles and columns, he is co-editor of the Revue de Droit Public legal publication (since 2004) and a founding member of Revue d’Histoire des Facultés de Droit. He is also a member on the Scientific Board for several legal publications (Revue Juridique d’Économie Publique, Revue des Contrats, Droit et Patrimoine, etc.).

In 2014, Yves Gaudemet was elected as a member of the Academy for Moral and Political Sciences at the Institut de France.
