Education and career
Martin Bouygues, born in 1952, is the youngest son of Francis Bouygues, who founded the Bouygues company in the same year.
He joined the Group in 1974 as works supervisor.
In 1978, he helped to establish Maison Bouygues, specialising in the sale of catalogue homes.
In 1987, Martin Bouygues was appointed Vice-Chairman of Bouygues' Board of Directors, on which he has served since 1982.
On 5 September 1989, Martin Bouygues took over from Francis Bouygues as Chairman and CEO of Bouygues.
At Martin Bouygues' instigation, the Group pursued its development in Construction as well as in Media (TF1) and launched Bouygues Telecom in 1996.
In 2006, Bouygues acquired a stake in Alstom and is thus in a position to expand into new high-growth business lines, in transport and power.
Today, Bouygues is a diversified industrial group with a strong corporate culture. Its business activities focus on two sectors: Construction (Bouygues Construction, Bouygues Immobilier and Colas), and Telecoms/Media (TF1 and Bouygues Telecom).
Operating in more than 80 countries, the Bouygues group had a workforce of 133,971 people at the end of December 2009.
